Dark Paradise Chapter Twenty Two

Arnav went to bed that night with a heavy heart, Khushi had fallen asleep quite quickly, worn out from the day but Arnav had stayed awake for a while. His mind kept racing, if Shyam had caused their accident whose to say he hadn't caused Di's or God only knows done what else? It plagued Arnav's mind, the one thing he meant to do in life was protect his family, what use was all this money, all this status if, at the end of the day he couldn't even protect the ones he loved. He'd let Di down by letting her marry such a degraded man, he had seriously misjudged Shyam and he was paying the price of that misjudgement now. He looked at Khushi and pondered deeply about how he'd done the worst to her. He convinced her to marry him by claiming he would protect her from Shyam, much good that did. By marrying Khushi he caused her the greatest damage possible. She'd almost died because of his actions. It wasn't fair on her, he saw how peaceful she looked, blissfully unaware of what a poor job her husband had done with regards to keeping his word. He'd failed Khushi. He felt angry with himself more than Shyam, how could he have let this happen to his family, to his sister and to...to his wife? He needed to get out of here, he got up and grabbed a jacket and his keys and decided to go for a drive, to where he wasn't sure, he just knew that he couldn't stay here much longer...Khushi woke up the next morning to the sound of the bedroom door closing. Her vision was slightly blurred but once her eyes adjusted to the light she saw it was Jiji with breakfast. Khushi smiled and slowly sat up making room for her sister. Then it occurred to her, surely she should have woken up when Arnav woke up. He always made so much noise it was impossible not to wake up.
"Arnav...-" Khushi began but Payal cut her off.
"Oh hah, Bhai ka phone aya tah, he said he got a call last night that there was some kind of an issue at the farmhouse out in the outskirts and he had to go deal with it last night. It got pretty late so he just stayed there. He said he'd be back later." Payal said as she put the small table with Khushi's breakfast in front of her. Khushi felt that was strange, why didn't he just call her? Why didn't he tell her specifically? She was his wife she had a right to know. He had been gone all night, would it have killed him to leave a note. Laad Governor, that name rang in Khushi's mind. Payal looked at Khushi who then forced a smile and then began to eat.

Arnav came back in time for Khushi's second check up in the day. He strode into their room to see Nani was sat on the bed next to her laadli bahu, Khushi. He half smiled at that, well even if he couldn't give her what she deserved at least she was loved in this house. He threw his coat onto a lounger and took a seat on the other side of Khushi. He reached out to hold her hand when she snatched it away and gave him a deathly stare. Arnav looked back at her with confusion, he went to take her hand again when she more forcefully moved it away.
"Khushi!" He whispered harshly but she turned away from him.
"Mr. Raizada, Khushi is making good progress, your Nani has told me that Khushi went downstairs today with the help of her sister and your brother. Its good that she's challenging herself but she should remember not to exert herself to greatly. Mrs. Raizada if I were you I wouldn't go for any more walks until later this evening." The Doctor said and Khushi smiled sweetly and nodded at him.
"Aayeh Doctor, hum tumhe bahar tak chor ke aathe. Arnav Bitua Khushi Bitiya ki saath raho." Naniji said as she guided the Doctor out. Arnav looked sternly at Khushi.
"Yeh kya tah Khushi?" Arnav asked confused.
"Kya?" Khushi asked in a blasé manner. Arnav clenched his jaw and took a deep breath, don't, don't get angry with her, he kept reminding himself.
"Why were you being so weird?" He asked.
"I am weird, how many times have you called me pagal and ajeeb. You on the other hand! You stayed out all night and half the day, worrying me half to death. Aapko zaraa se bhi andazza hai, meri toh jaan hi-" Khushi couldn't finish her sentence as Arnav had clasped his hand forcefully over her mouth.
"Don't. Even. Joke. About. That." He said simply, Khushi pulled his hand off.
"Look, all I was saying is that given everything that's happened I would feel more at peace if I knew where you were. More specifically I would prefer if you stayed with me. But you're Arnav Singh Raizada, you'll do what you want anyway." Khushi said shaking her head, trying not to get angry. She knew what she'd signed up for when she married this arrogant man. Its just as he and she had tied this knot he'd begun to open up and show Khushi knew facets of himself but she realised that old habits die hard with ASR. Not considering the consequences of his actions was at the top of that list. Arnav sighed deeply, if only she knew. If only she realised just how much Arnav was dealing with right now she would understand why he needed space. But he couldn't blame her for that so he shook his head, got up and went to have a shower. Khushi was still slightly angry at Arnav but she knew it was unfair to expect too much from him, at the end of the day he was just a human being and we all make mistakes.
